"Hi, I'm in the process of building a system I have two 330 IBC coming and drawn out plans for a 10'x16' GH the beds will run the length 36”x10' in the back 6' I will have a tank in each corner with a recessed sump…"
I just made an auto power failure switch to keep the water circulating on twelve volt DC batteries, that are (for now) solar charged. When the power fails, the power switches to the batteries, and back to 110 VAC when it resumes. I made it for about $30.00 (minus the 12V pumps), and it seems to work very reliably. I guess it would be possible to use an inverter, but I am thinking the 110V AC pumps might drain the batteries quicker? The principle is of this switch is very simple. I thought about…See More
"Hi Patrick I'm at the same spot as you are. I have decision to go with the bigger system and the green house. I just go head first all in. I'm in the same neck of the woods as you. Good to see people from west side of Washington. "
"Just a thought-- Salicornia and Salsola soda are both edible (quite tasty, too) terrestrial plants that have high salt tolerances. They are sometimes marketed as "alghe" in Italy, and served in restaurants as side dish/veg accompaniments…"
"I have 17 black bullhead in an IBC tote. Once I cleared the system of ich brought in by some purchased channel cat (I killed off all the fish and left it for a few weeks), the bullhead have been user-proof and very easy. They have grown from around…"
First I should say water and electricity do not mix so please be careful. I saw a you-tube video on building this. I had a safety problem that needed to be changed and made better. Water heaters have a metal tank that the heating element screws into. The tank of a house water heater is grounded and so should this heater. It also should be used on a gfic circuit. The recent weather change made me worry about the water in my new system getting too cold 50 degrees. I built a solar water heater…See More
"I picked up a 450w heater from Ocean Floor yesterday with a 180g threshold. Added more warm water last night. Had 2 more dead this morning. I'm sure it is just fallout from when they were all swimming upside down. The rest of these guys look a…"
Well, the frost did a number on my tomato plants. Pretty much wiped out 80% of them. I picked a bucket of ripe fruit which the good lady is going to make pasta sauce from, but there are pounds and pounds of green tomatoes that…"
