I've just started my system and the cycling is almost complete. I am going to put channel catfish in my system. I was wondering if they would breed in the tank and if so if there is anything I need to do to allow it to happen.
"Hi everyone. I will be building a three 55 gallon tank system soon. At 3-5 gallons per fish, that'$ 11 to 18 fish i need for my first system. Does anyone have this many fish they can give me in the Miami or South Florida area? I can trade 55…"
The water level in your beds should be 1 inch below the top of the media or alternatively the top 1 inch of media should be dry. Also I've noticed some of the seedlings are being wet constantly which is not good. The roots of all…"
I have a indoor 20 gallon tank with crawfish and rosy red minnows feeding into 2 pea gravel growbeds, the full setup can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O9ZYJ0INb0 It is fully cycled and my ammonia and nitrites are 0, my ph (which was my first concern until I tested it) is 6.8 (although I tested it the day after I added some sea shells so it might have been lower had I tested it before adding them) and my nitrates are about 80.…See More
There has been no global warming since the nineties -- according to all the major temperature data sets. When most in the media refused to report, CFACT graphed it and put it on a billboard at the entrance to D.C. Warming campaigners…"
"Alex, I agree with your points of control over populace, have you ever been to Bejing, China, Belize City, Belize, Kenya, Guatamala, El Salvador, ? I have. I have seen what overpopulation has done. Stop to think for just a…"
"Ditto, big fan of fishless cycling, I cycled for over 3 months before putting fish in the system (my fish were two small to put in). My system was cycled in a month and a half, and waiting for the fish to grow to a decent size to put in the…"
"Might be iron or magnesium deficient ... I have posted this is image on other treads. I found it a while back and find that is informative. Both of these minerals can be deployed via spraying the leaves with a diluted solution.
Aquaponics is a fascinating method of growing. Creating a micro-eco-system (can you double hyphenate?) is a challenging, interesting, and often expensive endeavor. I enjoyed the research and the fruits of that labor. But, in the Northwest, I found it to be a greater challenge to make it economically practical on a small scale. Perhaps if I were to use native species of fish and allowed the system to go dormant during the cold and dark season, it may have been more practical. But I wanted…See More
