"Do you have a lot of algae in your tank.
When i bought my tilapia, the breeder said watch the fish eat when i first put them in the tank. He said that if they don't eat very well at first they might be eating the algae in the tank. If there is…"
"You can pretty much grow anything you want in a raft system as long as you provide support for the plant and it doesn't become to heavy and push the raft under the water. Lettuce, basil, tomato, cucumbers, peppers, kale, squash, pumpkins,…"
"I'm letting the media grow bed filter the water from the fish tank, then from the sump tank it goes to the raft tank before returning to the fish tank.
Why is clearing the water so important in DWC?
The bed I'm currently using for rafts…"
"Not in the sense we are all use to. Let me explain the process that is working now for me.
Fish tank with pump pumps up to main grow-bed that is a flood and drain. 10 minute fill 30 second drain. Filled with Hydrocorn.…"
"Are you doing any type of filtration before the fish tank water goes to the raft? What's going to act as the bio filter to grow the bacteria?
As for plants, it seems like lettuce & herbs do great in a Raft System. "
"Sure if you concider my lettuce is only 6" tall and the chard is 13". Other plants I have placed in the DWC that did well were, habanero seeds, pole beans, snap peas, leaf lettuce and broccoli. All of these have been moved to…"
"Yea, but isn't that basically another lettuce. Maybe not in the same family, but very similar in plant type. From what i have observed is that certain plants need to get air to the roots. So a DWC set up wouldn't facilitate that, i guess…"
"Larger is better, but larger costs more to operate. The initial price of your pump pales in comparison to the cost of operation so look for efficiency.
My experience shows that the water flow is not critical. I'm not saying a…"
"I'm building a 6x11 grow room in my garage made with 1/2 rigid insulation with a heat barrier on the inside. My garage is already insulated but no heat so I hope that by building a smaller room inside will help control my temperature.I plan on…"
"Just my 2 cents. I had the same problem with a dirt grow bed and with my ap system, specifically with Tomatoes and Hot Peppers (all varieties I grow) What I have found was that the plants are suffering a calcium deficiency. Adding…"
I have a +/- 600 gallon tank with tilapia that has gone quite green. I have tried covering it, feeding the fish less, etc. Nothing is clearing it up. I think I need to do a drastic water change to clear it up, but want to know how far I can push the change. I have about 35 tilapia in the tank. Any advice would be appreciated.See More
"@Jim - Normally the sump pump output is divided between FT1 & FT2 with the volume proportionate to the FT size. During the 15 minutes the Grow Bed pump in FT2 is on, the sump is receiving more than it's sending and at the shut off…"
