A Hello and a Thank You from Missouri

Hello all, I have my first system up and running. I want to say thanks for all of the information on this site. I have been really using it while setting up my system and thought itwas time to say thanks. It is an IBC tote and 6 half barrels and a sump. It is flood and drain 15 minutes on and 45 minutes off. I cycled it without fish and just now added 20 goldfish to make sure it is working OK while finding a source of fish.…See More

"Hi Ahren, Your top up/source water is PH 7.5ppm, so that's going to be your readings for now. Yes it will fluctuate as the system is new/"newish". With those nitrate sucker fruiting plants in a new system it will be some time for you…"

"Kale and cabbage both do well in our system.  Don't know about peanuts but do know that other root crops do well, carrots and beets.  Good luck."

"Broccoli is long gone here - usually works well in fall.  No idea how that translates to indoor gardening.  With warming and lengthening days they usually go straight to flowering."

High PH and No Nitrates

I have a single IBC Tote Aquaponic system. My tap water PH=7.5The system cycled fish-less (added ammonia to kick-start it) for about 40 days and reached a steady PH of 7.0 and Nitrates exceeded 80ppm and ammonia was 0ppm.  I have about 7 tomato plants and three cucumber plants growing in the bed.  The tomatoes have reached upwards of four feet and have fruit on them already.  I had been adding one capful of liquid seaweed each day up until I put the fish in.at about day 40, I added 40…See More
