"We have a 15 gallon freshwater aquarium at home and I got so tired of hearing about copper that I cleaned off 5 or 6 pennies with vinegar until they shined beautifully; then dropped them into the fish tank about 8 weeks ago.
We haven't lost any…"
"Shelia is your heating system a closed system so the waters don't mix? Dose it have a separate pump? How can you regulate the temp in the fish tank? I like the idea, looks great. Is the fire box airtight? You’ve given me some inspiration…"
"Sure, we still do tours, give Ben a call about that. We'd love to have you come up. We haven't had any problems with leaf cutter ants yet. Plenty of grasshopper this summer, though. Mice were a big problem too.
Lighting can be one of those items that can cost a LOT or as LITTLE as you want it to. Everyone may tell you to go with T-5 lighting, which currently looks to be the coming down in price, and could be…"
"Dr. Edoardo Pantanella PhD,University of Tuscia, Viterbo, Italy was doing some research on saline aquaponics in Tiawan. I talked with him this past June in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He has had some success on 10% saline systems were he was…"
"Hey there. I may have 5 female tilapias with eggs in their mouths. They are in a tank with 2 males and some pvc pipe for hiding. What's the best way to get them out? Should I make an egg tumbler for the eggs? If so, how do yoi make a simple egg…"
HI I'm new to this concept. I'm in the stage that I have a green house drawn out, I have a layout. But now I live in the northwest so I will need to supplement the plants in the gh to grow through the winter. The lighting that I know is from an underground business of years ago, I don't think that lighting would work in this situation. See More
I'm in Portland OR and don't do any supplemental light, though in the winter months it would probably help. I wish I had insulated my fish tank so that is my suggestion. If you can double pane your GH I would do that or…"
"Hi, I'm in the process of building a system I have two 330 IBC coming and drawn out plans for a 10'x16' GH the beds will run the length 36”x10' in the back 6' I will have a tank in each corner with a recessed sump…"
I just made an auto power failure switch to keep the water circulating on twelve volt DC batteries, that are (for now) solar charged. When the power fails, the power switches to the batteries, and back to 110 VAC when it resumes. I made it for about $30.00 (minus the 12V pumps), and it seems to work very reliably. I guess it would be possible to use an inverter, but I am thinking the 110V AC pumps might drain the batteries quicker? The principle is of this switch is very simple. I thought about…See More
"Hi Patrick I'm at the same spot as you are. I have decision to go with the bigger system and the green house. I just go head first all in. I'm in the same neck of the woods as you. Good to see people from west side of Washington. "
